It’s a question that started to wander around in my head a few days ago. I thought to myself: “You know, it would be really cool if I could watch tv on my pc or my laptop. This is the year 2010 after all.” You would think that with the internet revolution regular television would be obsolete. I don’t really understand why it’s around anymore. With the internet you could have so much more freedom and so many more channels to be able to choose from. And the tv companies should have a lot of advantages by using the internet. First off, they could get a lot better feedback from their viewers. They would be able to form communities around different shows a lot easier. And secondly, they could personalize their advertising a lot better and probably reach a wider audience. Anyways, I started to look for software that would let me watch tv on my pc and I was surprised to find out that there is a whole market of different software that lets you do just this. So I bought and installed such software to see how it works. Up until now, I have been very satisfied. There are thousands of channels that you can choose from just about any country in the world. I can watch the world cup in South Africa and then quickly switch to see news of it covered from Russia (although you won’t understand much unless you speak russian). The best part about this kind of software that lets me watch tv on my pc is the fact that I only have to pay for it once and then I can watch all the tv that I possibly can. With normal cable tv providers, you have to pay monthly fees in order to get their service (which sucks). Another cool thing is that I am not forced to watch tv on my pc, I can hook up my laptop to my widescreen tv and watch tv the old fashioned style, but without the monthly fee. It’s really cool. The only problem is that the remote can’t change the channels; you have to do it from the laptop/computer/whatever you have hooked up to your tv set. Some software packages even allow you to listen to radio too. Basically these “watch tv on my pc” kind of applications replace all the old and obsolete broadcasting mediums. It’s really, really amazing. All you need is an internet connection and you can listen to or watch anything you want. This can greatly reduce costs. For example, if you want to watch tv while in the bathroom, instead of having to buy a new tv set and hook it up in the bathroom, all you have to do is get a laptop and a wifi internet connection and boom!!! you can watch tv or listen to radio wherever you want. That is why I recommend “watch tv on my pc” software to anybody.
